The big monitors are here to stay because of their efficiency . Most exceed 100 db 1w 1m.
Where as near fields will only go as much as 90 db.

Tannoy with its 15 model is back .Augspurger
with new components such as the ones displayed by Allaire studios.And that's just a few with out naming Boxer, Dyne,Genelec Westlake.The advantage of usising chambers with JBL or Tad components made these speakers more compact.

A product developed by Altec or GPA would
thrust their components in the same category.
Unless the (vas) of Altecs woofers require a internal volume to big to meet the challenge.The 416 by Altec is considered by experts to meet and exceed all the physical acoustic requirements.And is still considered the best woofer ever made for it's definition clarity and depth of field.


Ironnically one french expert said and i quote :the only thing that changed over 30 years In the evolution of speakers is the strength of the glue holding the cone.
